Volley Demo – Conking the Ball

Federer reminds us about playing the net
His technique appears flawless (as most everything else)
As a caveat, there are many ways to hit the ball, and coaches may or may not agree with the following interpretation
Takeaways include
  • Turn the the side with the prepared racquet facing or inline with the incoming ball
  • Begin the forward stroke with s subtle shift of weight (coming against the ball)
  • Use as brief a stroke as possible (McEnroe did the same) where at the finish the racquet face remains aligned to the target
Now get back to the basics, and work on simplicity, accuracy and a firm hit when at or taking the net!!

Agree. I like fact that an upright stance is OK. I’ve never been good at volleying in crouched stance with my head close to the racket head.

Dan – thanks, and just last night a friend showed me his volley form – and I suggested he keep his back straight
