Sybervision was a product many years ago based on the premise that repeated (repeat – REPEATED) viewing of an elite performance would tend to imprint that motion within you unconscious.  In those days they used Stan Smith, in these days I highly recommend the up and coming Milos Raonic.

The ATP Ricoh Match Statistics provide an initial glimpse of this excellent service delivery. Milos ranks first winning 84% of his first serve points.  He ranks third winning 59% of his second serve points.  And is tied for first with Rafa (who played only clay court events so far this year) winning 93% of his service games.

Arguably the best serve in men’s tennis – and though some point out the power and placement – for me this is the best serve because of two things – the RHYTHM and the EFFORTLESS FLOW

Watch the video as many times as possible.  And within your viewing, make special note of the following

  • Grip – at the service address, how is his hand positioned on the racquet?
  • Foot placement – is he centered or moving his back foot up during the motion?
  • Toss height – is the toss low, neutral or somewhat high?
  • Torso flexibility – does he look stiff, limber, loose, what do you see?
  • Hitting action – do you see this as a pushing or pulling motion?  What do you see in his snap?
  • Follow through – does his hand and arm finish long and strong to his left side, or somehow decelerate rather quickly?

Note – I have read that Milos spent his junior career modeling Pete Sampras – the question is, “Are you modeling anyone on your serve?’

And if not – model Milos!!!!!!!!!!!

Got something to say? (One comment So Far)

  1. Thank you Jim for two excellent videos. I noted a long follow through to the side on the first two serves. Furthermore, I considered the ball tosses to be of medium height.
