i want to be a professional tennis player i am a 20yrs old and my height is 5.5 and till today i didnt touched the tennis bat so is there any chance for me to become a pro tennis player and how many years pratice and how many hrs pracitise per day is required

Yash – not sure if you are really considering pro tennis – but it is a long long journey, requires probably 10,000 hours (see books like the Talent Code) pretty good coaching, and a support network. The easier avenue is to play the game, learn to love the game, and get as good as you get in as long as it takes – something about the journey being as if not more important than the destination

I have a question regarding the picture of Pete pronating through his serve and ending up in the inverted V. The only way that I can come close to this is when I hit flat or slice through the ball on the left side creating a left to right spin. It seems that this move is not possible when slicing through the right side of the ball.

    What am I missing?

Neil – perhaps the most difficult if not the most important aspect of the serve – I am not sure your grip is correct, for if the ball spins left to right it suggests you are not bringing the racquet head to the ball “on edge” so if you are more or less generally hitting flat serves with a slight push then this move is quite different – but to my mind if this is exactly how Pete and Roger and Rafa and so many more do it – then it is to the student to try and learn (if willing) – I go into lots of detail on this in a product – Building the Serve from the Ground Up – you can find it under the heading dramatically improve your game

This was really very helpful. I have a pretty good serve but think your advice will
help make it much better and stronger. Thanks!

I expect I’ll read your every day for awhile – something tells me that therein lies my current problem(s)
Tore my rotator cuff about 4 yrs ago and was helped into a new serve by a Pro who watched me struggling while trying to practice. I evolved that motion into a dynamite serve but alas it left me a year ago. That serve involved setting up with weight solidly on the ball of the left, toss well out – 12-18 inches, bringing the racquet from behind my head and making the hit with as much snap as I could muster, Took all the stress off the shoulder.
Now I evolved that sort of a pop serve, which had more heat than I expected into a blaster with a weight rotation back to right foot, a definite left side body stretch. Landed well into the court.
Right now I’ve lost calm rhythm and apparently no racquet drop. It’s an erratic mess.
I’m 78- still playing singles. Gotta get that ace serve back! Hope to play super seniors 80 plus.
    Thanks
    Les

Thanks Jim, Everything you described is the feeling when my serve is on. Thank you for making a check list with counting and other tips.
One thing I’ve been doing is taking a bucket of balls in my work truck and stopping on my way home at the park. Just one bucket only takes 20 minutes.
